Light rain falls, the streets are empty, only a few umbrellas move slowly. The news of Ethereum's plummet flashes on my phone screen, and my account balance is down to three digits. The desolation outside intertwines with my own downfall.
I am unwilling to accept it; why have I failed so miserably?
From a problem-solver in a small town to being admitted to Wuhan University, and then becoming a graduate student at the University of Hong Kong, I have worked hard every step of the way. Yet now, I have lost everything.
Last year, I quit my job, bringing 200,000 yuan saved over a year and a half into the cryptocurrency field. At first, everything seemed wonderful: monitoring the market daily, researching projects, analyzing trends, feeling freer than at work, after all, I was fighting for myself. During that time, I made some money and met a group of friends, and we shared opportunities together.
From the beginning of the year to the end, my situation remained good, with total profits exceeding 1 million yuan, but I did not withdraw. Until December, I felt I was falling behind the market rhythm and judged that altcoins would enter a boom period, so I decided to buy the dip on BOME. I fantasized about replicating last year's PEPE miracle, buying from 0.008 all the way down to 0.003, but the crash this morning led to liquidation. The leverage I used was not high, less than 3 times.
I bet everything, only for it to vanish.
The most ironic part is that after returning home, I also had my parents buy the dip, letting them start buying $bome from 0.004 and averaging down to 0.003. As of today, the assets have nearly halved. I have already lost enough, and now I have dragged my parents down with me; I truly feel like a complete failure.
This year has been like sitting on pins and needles, opening the exchange every day to see my account shrink. When faced with inquiries from friends and family about work, I have no confidence; clearly exhausted every day, yet not making money, living in hardship, and facing ridicule from relatives: “After studying so much, you still don’t have a stable job.”
I am genuinely curious, who can actually make a profit on exchanges? The price of coins has dropped five times and can drop another four times; new coins launch only to drop four to five times? In this situation, can anyone really make money?
At this moment, my feelings are complex: unwilling yet confused and helpless. I clearly feel I have tried my best, yet things always go against my wishes. Those goals that once made my blood boil now seem like paper soaked in rain, blurred and unclear. I don’t know where to go or if I can stand up again.
